Nyko Airflow Controller Review by Hector Cortez
First off, I'd like to say that I respect Nyko for trying to re-invent the wheel, not just follow in the footsteps of those before them. Re-invent, you say? Yes, with the AirFlo controller, Nyko added the first of it's kind, "air conditioning" to a video game controller. Maybe not air conditioning, but air none the less.
To be more exact, the Air Flo controller has a small fan, yes your eyes aren't deceiving you, I said fan! With this fan, you eliminate the oh-so-common "Gamer Hands". You know what I'm talking about. Hands so damp your dad will wonder if you were really playing games or not... We've all experienced the serious condition "Gamer Hands" either by suffering from it or being infected while taking your friends controller only to be greeted with a damp controller.
Fear no more! With the AirFlo you have the option of turning on or off the fan which will blow air through ridges on the sides of the controller keeping your hands nice and dry. You also have the option to set the fan to low or high, low being for wussy gamers who only play for 30 mins, high being the hardcore gamers who have no regard for time and who's slogan is "Don't Bother Me. I'm Playing Halo."
When you think about it, this if for who the controller was made for, the hardcore gamer who won't put down the controller until s/he has passed a certain point or a certain level. For those gamers, Nyko invented the AirFlo. Now you won't have to try and beat Halo on Legendary with damp hands making your gaming experience much more enjoyable.
When you first put your greedy little hands on the AirFlo controller you realize that it is very comfortable to hold and dare I say, feels a little better than the official xbox controller. Ok, that's where it ends. It only feels better than the official xbox controller, but the button layout just doesn't cut it. My biggest complaint is that the white and black buttons are in a very odd position. They are right above the Y button, so close that you'll have a hard time knowing which of the three you are hitting. Also, the only other thing wrong is the stick tension. If you want to move them slightly, good luck, as they will sort of 'jump'.
All in all, the AirFlo is a pretty damn good controller, especially the since it has a fan, I mean come on, a fan! Big ups to Nyko once again for their innovation and I am sure that with the AirFlo 2 (if it's being made), all these problems will be dealt with, then it will be one bad ass controller that will blow any other 3rd party controller out of the water. We'll have to wait till then but while you wait, go get an AirFlo, it's a great buy!
