MadCatz Control Pad Pro Review
by Hector Cortez

The Mad Catz Control Pad Pro is an alternative Xbox controller. Made by Mad Catz, a leader in the peripheral market, it is priced at around $34.99 and comes with a 5 year warranty. Officially licensed for Xbox, the Mad Catz Control Pad Pro gives you great control with rubberized grips for better handling and comfort. Features include dual analog joysticks, fully analog pressure-sensitive action buttons and an 8 way D-pad, two expansion bays for memory cards or other game enhancers, a macro button that allow you to program complex moves and execute them at the push of a button and with a 9 foot cord, there is no need to sit so close to the television.

The Mad Catz Control Pad Pro is a little smaller than the original Xbox controller. It comes in many cool colors which I think is pretty cool and something that really caught my eye was the cord. "The cord?" is what your all probably asking ... and my answer is, it just looks extremely cool. If you buy one, you'll know exactly what I mean. The overall look of the controller is tasty and if it wasn't for all those computer chips inside, I'd pour some hot sauce on it and eat it! :) The D pad is a traditional D pad in the shape of a cross which makes games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 easier to play. The button placement is also different from the original xbox controller. The main buttons (X, A, Y, B) are in the shape of a baseball field so you wont accidentally hit the wrong button during intense gaming moments. The Control Pad Pro also feels very sturdy. Rest assured, Mad Catz wasn't the leader in peripherals for no reason. So if you buy, you can bet your buck that it won't break like a Dreamcast controller. ;)

But nothing is perfect, so now we move on to the cons. I don't really have much to complain about, only two. The first is that every time you press a button it makes a 'click' noise which can get annoying after a while. For example if you're playing DOA 3 then your going to be pressing a lot of buttons, so having a 'click' noise for every button pressed can get a bit tedious. The second thing is that you have to press hard for the buttons to execute a command. In other words, you'll swear your pushing the button, but then you realize you have to press all the way in, even though the button is already down and you'd think it was pressed already. This doesn't affect gameplay that much though. Just like with every other controller invented, you just gotta get used to it.

In closing, this is a good alternative to the original xbox controller. With a sleek look, sturdiness and smaller feel, the Mad Catz Control Pad Pro can only get better when Mad Catz works out the 'problems' then the next Control Pad Pro is sure to be one of the best controllers on the market. But for now, you can't go wrong.
